Make Room for Art

While there are many design elements that can personalize your home, nothing can compare to the inclusion of art. The selection and placement of art, unlike other decorative selections, if done with the purpose of finding and collecting what you love, is itself a rich experience and one that increases in personal value over time. What’s more, living with art in the home is an essential way to support our imaginations, engage us in ongoing conversations, and create a lasting bond between generations. At its core, collecting art is a human endeavor to be cherished now more than ever as we deepen our relationship with computer aided living and A.I.

Developing a collection of art that speaks to you may seem daunting and intimidating at first, but here are a few steps you can take to organize your approach to creating an artful home:

  • Begin to actively look at a variety of art. What is it about a piece that resonates with you? Does it transport you in some way?
  • Allocate a budget early in your art journey or in the beginning of a home renovation project. This will help you focus on art acquisition.
  • Identify spaces in your home that are natural focal points and therefore would highlight a unique piece of art. Note: not all spaces are created equal; by prioritizing spaces such as an entrance hall, living room mantle, and primary bedroom wall, your art selections will be poised to have optimum impact.

Finally, you do not have to go it alone. Art and design professionals can make a big difference in helping you accomplish your art collecting objectives. Good design will always make way for art in the home. By taking the above steps you’ll be well prepared to communicate your priorities so that they may best assist you in finding quality resources for your burgeoning collection!
