This phase should not be rushed through or underestimated. What is designed will be built and a good builder can’t fix a bad design! Take your time to get it right on paper, as it’s much less expensive than making changes during construction.

This might be your first project, but the professionals (architect, landscape architect, interior designer, kitchen designer) do numerous projects every year. Put your trust in their advice, design solutions, and guidance.

They are the real end-users of the construction drawings, not the homeowner. They know who’s a better designer and who does a better set of construction drawings than others.
Have a master plan if doing a project in phases.
You should be looking at the big picture when doing a project in phases, looking at the house as a whole so you have a road map as to where it’s going. Not doing so may result in some bad decisions along the way, which could be costly.
